We have been learning to order and compare lengths. Below is an activity where we ordered a Gingerbread family by length. We used lots of words like tallest, shortest, biggest, smallest, tiny, huge, etc.
We then discussed other ways that the gingerbread man could have crossed the river. We made a river and then in groups used blocks, paper, sellotape and popsicle sticks to construct a bridge. We had to make sure the bridge didn't touch the water and could span the river.
We had some wonderful, creative ideas and there were some very interesting bridges! Some of the children decided to modify and improve their bridges during ACTIVE time on Friday.

Here are some measurement ideas for home.
Ask your child to make comparisons with their toys. For example: can they line up their soft toys from shortest to tallest? Or sort their dinosaurs or plastic animals into short ones and tall ones. They could draw pictures of their tallest and smallest toys to bring to class next week.
Perhaps they could do the same with their family and see who is the tallest and shortest.
For experts - use a tape measure and see how big a metre is. Start looking at things that are bigger, smaller or the about the same size as a metre.
