Thank you to the emergency services

This week Christchurch has come together again as a strong supportive community. This time to endure the Port Hills fires. Today at school we expressed our gratitude to the emergency services and helicopter pilots.

We dressed up as emergency workers and heroes, raising money for the family of Steve Askin who lost his life fighting the fires:

We made pictures of fire engines and helicopters as part of a whole school display to say thanks to all the people helping to extinguish the fires. These were put up on our school fence. Later, when we were back in class we could hear the army trucks and fire engines honking as they went past.

We also made a whole school human sign to say thank you to the helicopter pilots.
Our big excitement was that Richie McCaw was in the helicopter that flew over us and took the picture of us all! We think we look like human sprinkles!
We are so fortunate to have such a strong a dedicated force of firefighters, soldiers, police and volunteers who have been working so hard for the last 5 days to quash the fire and keep us safe. We are so proud of them and of our community that has rallied around those who have been affected by this event.
